I am Maria Chiru, a counsellor, educator, guidance and career specialist, lifelong learner, and licensed mental health professional, registered with The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I am also the founder of Chiru Counselling & Psychotherapy. I have an M.A. in Counselling Psychology from the Yorkville University of Fredericton, NB, and a B.A. in Education from the University of Ottawa.

I have over 15 years of combined experience in clinical and education counselling and I offer short, medium and long-term counselling and psychotherapy services from my Ottawa-Manotick-based office.

I offer individual counselling using an integrative modality, based on the Adlerian concepts.

The Adlerian therapeutic relationship ((Alfred Adler, 1870-1937, is characterized by collaboration between therapist and client, working towards mutually agreed goals, from a consistently encouraging stance. My integrative therapeutic approach incorporates aspects of narrative therapy, Gestalt therapy, psychoanalysis, CBT, DBT, EFT, SFT, hypnotherapy, as appropriate for each client’s individual needs.

I offer couple & family counselling using a combination of attachment based theory, the Gottman method and Sue Johnson's EFT/Emotional Focused Therapy approach.

You may feel unsure or hesitant about asking for help, and taking the first step is an act of courage. However, many people find that engaging in therapy provides immense benefits, not least a deeper understanding of self and a greater satisfaction and contentment in life and relationships.
